Time Stratagies

Image
Time management has always been something that I have been really good at- in my head. I am great at planning out ahead for day or even a full week, but life happens and I often forget or procrastinate. This procrastination often comes from things that I just do not want to do, so I put them off and do other things instead to make my load feel lighter. However, in reading  "Eat The Frogs First Thing in The Morning (And Other Better Work Habits)"  by Thomas Oppong, it gave me a simple idea that could change the way I work. By completing the things I dread the most first, and putting the bulk of my energy into that task, my other work could become a breeze. This goes hand in hand with " 3 Steps to Recapture Time " by Joy Nicole Martinez, which states that getting something done with the first 15 minutes of your day is a productive and useful start. The first 15 minutes of my day are usually rolling out of bed and rushing around to get to class or work. However, wakin

Technology Overview

Blogging and creating a website are two of the main things we will be doing in this class this semester. These are both totally new to me, but Blogger has been very easy to learn and work with, and I know with proper direction I will be able to make a website too. This has been a totally different experience than any other class in my college career, as all my previous classes were completely through canvas. However, running this class through an interconnected system of blogging and canvas has helped expand my knowledge of how to get content out on the web. While no one outside this class is reading my blog, I thought it was a huge process to make one, not a couple clicks through Blogger. With Blogger, spell check, and the word count extension, making a blog has been smoother than expected.  Sarcastic blogging picture, from  Munofore

Class Assignments

After reading through the assignments for this class, I am even more excited for this class. Some other class experiences I have had feel like the class revolves around the teacher and what works for them, this class is the opposite. While we still have deadlines and normal assignments in this class, it is more of an experience for the student. I am very excited about the projects we will get to do, and learning more about how I can express the things I've learned through my blogs. Being able to manage my time and see things from the viewpoint of my peers is going to be a new and fun experience.  Mordecai and Rigby  Regular Show

Growth Mindset

Image
This is a way of thinking that I had never really deeply thought about before. Whenever facing adversity in learning something, I often just tell myself that I am not as gifted in the subject as others. I find myself striving for mediocrity in subjects and situations that have not started the way I expected. For example, if I do not as well as I was hoping on my first test in a new class, I set that as the bar for my peak in the class. I work to just keep even with that grade and often set that as the ceiling. I tell myself those succeeding are either gifted in the subject or have a more advanced background with the material than I do. As I am entering the end of my undergrad, and hoping to enter med school in the near future, this talk is something I can lean on. This talk showed me that half of the battle in learning and success if belief you can achieve more than you expect. Setting goals are great, but dreaming, striving and believing big things is how to set yourself up for knowle

Introduction to the Eyeball Guy

Hi there! I'm Clay Buchanan and I am a senior (kind of I am going to take an extra semester...) at OU! I am a Biology Pre-Optometry major and am going to start applying to Optometry schools Summer 2021! You probably can agree with me when I say that eyes are really weird, but at the same time I think they are super interesting and am excited for a future in optometry. I chose this as my major because I knew I wanted to both interact with and help people, and after working at a clinic in Norman I knew it was the job for me. Outside of my school life, I am a pretty predictable guy. I am a proud Christian, I live and breathe sports, and love time with my friends and family. When I am not working or dealing with schoolwork, you can probably find me on the couch watching whatever game is on, no matter the time of day. I don't care if it is foreign soccer in a language I don't even understand, I love following, watching and playing sports. If I could sit down and have a meal wi

Zeus, shown by Mythology Unleashed on  YouTube  The Lovers of Zeus https://sites.google.com/bmchs.org/loversofzeus/home/introduction I initially chose to look at this story because of my childhood fascination with greek mythology, which came from the knowledge and interest of my older brothers. When opening this story, my mind was already set on the classic image of Zeus as a giant up in the clouds with a lightning bolt in his hand, not a sly-looking human with a suit and sunglasses on. The personification of Zeus and this lovers as humans going to a cafe, not gods living above us is what captured me in this story. I guess that is what storytelling is all about, giving the reader a brand new perspective from the eyes of the writer. Because of this story, I might picture Zeus as more of a player than a god from now on.  The Untold Stories of Spongebob https://sites.google.com/view/sponge-stories/introduction This title also peaked my interest because of my childhood (and maybe even curr

My Favorite Place.. Kanakuk K-Kountry

Growing up, my parents would send me to summer camp in Branson, Missouri. Depending on the summer, we would either go to family camp as a group, I would go individually with kids my age, or both in the same summer! As a college student, I have gotten the chance to work at one of these camps for 3 straight summers, and I'm approaching my fourth in a row. That camp, is Kanakuk K-Kountry. The entrance into Kanakuk K-Kountry in Branson, Missouri. (Picture pinned by Kanakuk on  Pinterest ) Behind this gate is every elementary child's dream, a world of fun, games, and no school! I love this place because I get the chance to connect with other college counselors that are my age, while supervising and giving the same lasting memories that I got growing up as a camper to new kids. From water slides, to zip-lines, to taking boats out of the lake, this place has it all.     One of the many water slides at the K-Kountry.
