    • Brer Fox figured someone had been stealing his crops, so set a trap to catch the thief (which he assumed was Brer Rabbit)
    • Brer Rabbit got caught in the trap, when Brer Bear came by
    • He told Brer Bear he was a scarecrow protecting Brer Fox's crops, and Brer Bear said he needed money for his family so he would take the job from Brer Rabbit
    • Brer Bear was suspended in the trap, so Brer Rabbit went to get Brer Fox to frame Brer Bear for his theft
    • Brer Fox believed the trick and beat Brer Bear with a stick until he left
